Updating Biographical Information on your CGI Federal Profile
Here’s how you can rectify one of the most common errors that students make during the F-1 Visa application process.
Incomplete or inaccurate information provided on the CGI Federal Profile can seriously impact your F-1 Visa application process. Providing biographical information on your CGI Federal profile that does not match the information printed on your passport ID pages can either delay the processing time for your F-1 Visa or sometimes result in an automatic rejection of your visa application.
For example, Indian passport holders sometimes have their middle name included in the ‘Given Name’ section of their Indian passport. You must include your full legal name under the ‘Update Profile’ tab on your CGI Federal account.
How do I update my biographical information if I’ve already paid the visa fees?
Whether it’s a missing middle name, or a typo in the passport number you entered on your CGI Federal profile, if you have already paid your F-1 Visa fees, your biographical information will be locked into the CGI Federal system, and you cannot manually update the same.
Note: Although the Embassy/Consulate or the USTravelDocs - India website does not specify the exact steps you must take to rectify errors on your CGI Federal profile, Onboard Student Services, LLC has helped several F-1 Visa seekers in India successfully rectify such errors and obtain their student visa.
You must submit an inquiry through your CGI Federal profile, letting the US Embassy/Consulate know that you have wrongly entered your biographical information, requesting them to make the necessary change on their end if possible.
Click on the ‘Provide Feedback’ tab that appears in the top left section of your CGI Federal account’s dashboard.
Select your ‘Reason’ as ‘Any other query’ from the dropdown list, enter your request to the US Embassy/Consulate in the textbox provided for ‘Comments’, attach the relevant documents, and click on ‘Submit’.
CGI Federal Profile Biographical Information Update Request Template
Entering biographical information on your CGI Federal profile that does not match the details printed on your passport ID pages is a common mistake. Click below to access a free copy of the template we use for our F-1 Visa customers to request the US Embassy/Consulate to update errors on their backend. We have also included a list of documents that we must submit as part of such requests.
Once you submit your request, you may receive an email from ‘no-reply@ustraveldocs.com‘ confirming your request submission.
Note: The subject of this email contains the case number that has been assigned to your request. If you do not hear back from the US Embassy/Consulate regarding your request within 1-2 business days, you must email ‘support@ustraveldocs.com’ with your case number and inquire about the status of your request.
Allow 1-2 business days for the US Embassy/Consulate to process your request, and expect to receive an email from ‘support@ustraveldocs.com’ confirming that the US Embassy/Consulate acknowledges your error, giving clear instructions on the next steps.
Note: You most likely will not be required to make any changes on your end. We recommend printing and carrying a copy of the email you receive from ‘support@ustraveldocs.com’ when you visit the US Embassy/Consulate for your visa appointment.
